Company History

From it’s launch in 1983, English Eccentrics rapidly earned a reputation as one of the UK’s most eclectic and innovative fashion labels. Emerging from the group of new designers of the mid-1980s Individual Clothes Show, its first solo runway show, Arctic, took place in 1985. Helen David, her sister Judy Purbeck (noted for her stunning knitwear), and their friend Claire Angel (with her amazing fashion skills), were the initial design team.  Colin David joined the company from 1987. Together with a devoted and  wonderful staff they developed an international reputation and were represented in over 30 countries.

English Eccentrics has earned particular recognition for its especially distinctive textile designs and in 1999 Helen won the prize for Glamourous Evening Wear at the British Fashion Awards.
