July 2012

  / August 20, 2012

We took a brief trip in July to Lake Guarda and Lake Maggiore. I think Italy has more than its fair share of natural and man-made beauty, so it comes as no surprise that both locations were utterly lovely.

A place we had always wanted to visit is the open air opera in Verona. It is a fantastic old Roman Amphitheatre, and quite a surreal experience, to enter through velvet curtains into an OUTDOORS arena. We saw a lavish production of Don Giovanni including real horses and dancers, brilliant fun. As the sun sets so late in July, the Opera starts really late and goes on till about 1.30am. In the square nearby, cafes sell delicious ice creams to keep the audience going.
