Pawan Dham - Glass Temple

Joshi is our Brahmin guide in Haridwar, young, plum an moustachioed with a self satisfied air and a flat footed gait. He plods along quickly as if trying to escape from us. I wonder if he feels being a guide is a beneath his dignity. He ignores women and every day greets us both with ‘Hello Sir!’ looking at Colin.

However Joshi is good on all things Hindu and explains a lot of this complex religion to us. There is one god but also 33 million gods. The mirror temple in Haridwar, Pawan Dham looks like a shopping mall. It is bright, shiny and intensely decorative. The mirrors show the statues of the infinitely repeated   to remind us that god i everywhere.

Pawan Dham - Krishna

This panel depicts Krishna  and Arjun in the most famous episode of the Mahabaratha.  At this point Krishna reveals himself to his friend Arjun as a god. He explains to a reluctant Arjun that his Dharma, or purpose and duty, is to fight his cousins. But because Krishna has vowed not to take up arms for either side, he will act only as charioteer.
