Joshi is our Brahmin guide in Haridwar, young, plum an moustachioed with a self satisfied air and a flat footed gait. He plods along quickly as if trying to escape from us. I wonder if he feels being a guide is a beneath his dignity. He ignores women and every day greets us both with ‘Hello Sir!’ looking at Colin.
However Joshi is good on all things Hindu and explains a lot of this complex religion to us. There is one god but also 33 million gods. The mirror temple in Haridwar, Pawan Dham looks like a shopping mall. It is bright, shiny and intensely decorative. The mirrors show the statues of the infinitely repeated to remind us that god i everywhere.
